The park is best known as the world's premier destination for mountain gorilla trekking. It is home to more than half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population, and it's the only place on Earth where mountain gorillas and chimpanzees share the same ecosystem. Beyond its famous primates, Bwindi holds the highest diversity of tree species in East Africa, with over 200 species, and it's considered one of the continent's most important forests for montane butterflies. The forest is also rich in birdlife and mammals, sheltering roughly 350 bird species and 120 mammal species, including forest elephants and antelope. For travelers, a visit typically centers on a guided gorilla trek through the misty hillsides, paired with birdwatching and cultural encounters with nearby communities. Drive to Kampala, past captivating attractions en route: brief stop at the Equator and get a chance to be in both hemispheres at once, drive past the roadside markets aerated with fruit and vegetables. After your breakfast, Visit the Source of the Mighty River Nile. Your trip ends with Bujagali Falls on the other end of the Nile. Start for Kampala and on to the airport for your evening flight.
