Nyungwe National Park

Nyungwe National Park one of the largest block mountain forest in East , Central, Africa extending for 1,000sq.km across the majestic hills of South East Rwanda. The unique forest is abundant with flora diversity with 200 different types of trees, flowering plants, including giant Lobelia and a host of colorful orchids. There are 13 species of primates in this park including human closest living relatives the Chimpanzees, handsome Lhoest Monkey, hundreds of delightfully acrobatic Angola colobus, for birders, this is a home to 300 species of birds, 25 of them endemic to the Albertine Rift. Kivu grand is the most famous and only found here. The great blue, red and green turaco bird which streams from tree to tree.

Walking trails have been put in place to allow easy movements for searchers through the forest to various waterfalls and viewing points.

Comfortable rest accommodation and camp sites lie along the main road; the reserve can also be visited as a day trip from the towns of Butare and Cyangugu. 3 days trip to Nyungwe will enable one to view varieties of different primate species including chimpanzees and birds.
